CinemaNext Transforms Multicines Deiland Lanzarote with Premium Technology Upgrade

CinemaNext, the European leader in cinema exhibition services, has completed a full-scale technology and comfort upgrade at Multicines Deiland Lanzarote, located on the volcanic island of Lanzarote in Spain's Canary Islands. Covering three of the venue’s 5 screens in the Deiland Shopping Centre in Playa Honda, the project represents a significant step forward for cinema-going on the island, combining luxury seating, next-generation laser projection, renewed screen surfaces, and intelligent booth automation into a single, cohesive transformation.

Luxury Seating at the Heart of the Project

The most visible change for audiences is the installation of 130 Inorca Malibu Recliner on Riser (RoR) seats across the cinema’s Screens 4 & 5. The Recliner on Riser - RoR patented system is one of the most practical and elegant solutions in modern cinema refurbishment: luxury recliners are mounted directly onto existing stepped-floor structures, eliminating the need for major structural construction work. This approach preserves the existing step depths of the auditorium's stadium layout while dramatically upgrading the audience experience, saving both time and costs during the installation process.

The Malibu RoR seats feature dual-motor mechanisms, giving each guest independent control over their backrest and footrest angles. The design adapts to a wide range of body sizes and ages, offering a personalised level of recline that has become the hallmark of premium cinema comfort. With wide armrests and cupholders integrated into the design as well as a Mass Open‑Close (MOC) system, a feature that allows theatre staff to open or close all recliners simultaneously for fast, efficient cleaning and maintenance, the seats deliver a level of luxury typically associated with the world's leading multiplex operators, now brought to Lanzarote's cinema-going community.

With deep experience across the Spanish market, CinemaNext has developed its seating expertise in recent years, with the Recliner on Riser model proving particularly well-suited to refurbishment projects where structural disruption needs to be minimised.

4K Laser Projection: The Image Leap Forward

Three of the venue’s screens have also been equipped with Christie 4K RGB laser projectors, representing a substantial leap in image quality over the digital cinema projectors they replace. RGB laser projectors produce a significantly wider colour gamut and higher brightness than lamp-based or even single-chip laser systems, ensuring that images appear vivid, precisely detailed, and consistently bright from the first frame to the last and throughout the entire lifespan of the light source, which requires far less maintenance than traditional xenon lamps.

The 4K laser installation at Multicines Deiland Lanzarote signals a clear commitment by the venue to deliver image quality that can stand alongside any first-run cinema on the mainland. CinemaNext has considerable expertise in deploying laser projection systems across the Iberian Peninsula, ensuring each installation is calibrated to the specific dimensions and geometry of the auditorium.

Screen Renewal with Harkness Screens

Complementing the new projectors, auditoriums 1, 4, and 5 at Multicines Deiland Lanzarote have been fully renewed with screens from Harkness Screens. A screen renewal is a critical component of any laser projection upgrade: the increased brightness and precision of RGB laser demands a screen surface engineered to handle higher light output and deliver uniform gain across the entire viewing area without hotspots or colour shift. Harkness Screens offers a range of perforated and mini-perforated surfaces designed for both 2D and 3D presentation, accommodating a variety of projector configurations and auditorium geometries.

The combination of new laser projectors and freshly installed screens in these three auditoriums means audiences will experience images that are sharper, brighter, and more colour-accurate than ever before.

Dolby CP950: Cinema-Grade Audio Processing

Audio has not been overlooked in this transformation. The installation of Dolby CP950 cinema processors ensures that the venue's screens are equipped with one of the industry's most trusted sound platforms. The CP950 supports Dolby Surround 7.1 and 5.1 formats and is built with an expansion slot for future upgradability to Dolby Atmos, making it not only a high-quality solution for today but a sound investment for tomorrow.

PAA40+ Automation: Smarter Booth Operations

CinemaNext’s PAA40+ Automation Adapter has been deployed across the projection booths, enabling fully automated show control. The PAA40+ connects the cinema server or TMS with projection, audio, lighting, and other technical equipment, allowing seamless, unattended operation.

Beyond automation, the PAA40+ offers real-time energy monitoring, detailed reporting, and integrated lighting control via its built-in DALI interface. With up to 20 configurable macros, it provides a flexible platform for tailoring operations to the venue’s needs.

In practice, the system can reduce energy consumption by over 30% on average by aligning equipment usage precisely with show schedules and automating the powering on and off of connected hardware.

A Premium Cinema Experience for Lanzarote

The transformation of Multicines Deiland Lanzarote represents a carefully coordinated upgrade across every aspect of the cinema experience. From luxury recliner seating to cutting-edge laser projection, precision-engineered screens, immersive audio, and intelligent automation, each element contributes to a cohesive, high-quality offering.

CinemaNext’s Spain team managed the project end-to-end, from procurement through installation and commissioning. The result is a venue that not only enhances audience comfort and engagement but also demonstrates how a well-executed, technology-driven refurbishment can revitalise an existing cinema.

With these upgrades, Multicines Deiland Lanzarote positions itself among the most advanced cinema venues in the Canary Islands, delivering a premium experience that meets, and in many respects exceeds, modern audience expectations.
