CinemaNext Brings State-of-the-Art Cinema Technology to Milly-la-Forêt After 35-Year Wait

CinemaNext delivers comprehensive cinema solution for new four-screen Ciné-Lines complex, marking the return of cinema to the Essonne commune

CinemaNext, the European leader in cinema innovation, has successfully completed the installation of a cutting-edge four-screen cinema complex in Milly-la-Forêt, bringing cinema back to the commune after a 35-year absence. The stunning Ciné-Lines complex, which opened on 25 June 2025, represents a significant milestone for the community of communes of the two valleys (CC2V) and its approximately 20,000 residents.

The project, which was inaugurated by actor Laurent Lafitte (Netflix's Class Act, Elle), marks the culmination of an eight-year journey that began with a vision to provide local residents with access to both the latest releases and arthouse films. "Eight years ago when I arrived in Milly, I looked for a cinema near my home and saw that it was more than 27 minutes away by car," explained Romuald Boulanger, director, producer and manager of the cinema, as reported by Le Parisien

Comprehensive Technology Solution

CinemaNext France delivered a complete cinema technology solution encompassing projection, sound, seating, and theatre management systems, demonstrating its turn-key capabilities. The installation features a carefully tailored approach to each of the four screens:

Screen 1 is equipped with a Barco SP4K-15C 4K laser RGB projector and ICMP-X 4SSD server, delivering premium image quality for the complex's flagship auditorium. The sound system features JBL's 4253 3-way screen speakers complemented by dual 4281F subwoofers and 16 JBL 8102 surround speakers, creating an immersive 7.1 audio experience.

Screen 2 utilises a Barco SP2K-15S 2K laser projector and ICMP-X 4SSD server with a similar JBL sound configuration, ensuring consistent quality across the complex.

Screens 3 and 4 feature refurbished Christie CP2210 projectors enhanced with Appotronics 1.0KW laser light units, demonstrating CinemaNext's commitment to sustainable cinema solutions through equipment retrofit and refurbishment.

Screens 3 and 4 are equipped with Dolby IMS3000 integrated media servers, providing reliable digital content management and playback capabilities.

Premium Comfort with Ezcaray Tempo Seating

A cornerstone of the cinema experience at Ciné-Lines is the installation of 516 Ezcaray  Tempo seats throughout the four auditoriums. These premium seats feature fixed seating with Veltoseat fabric upholstery, designed to provide optimal comfort for extended viewing sessions. Each seat is mounted on a central pedestal base, maximising legroom and ease of movement for patrons.

The seats are configured with 60 cm spacing (adjustable to 59 cm where necessary) to ensure comfortable personal space, while fabric-covered armrests enhance the premium feel. Practical amenities include integrated cup holders at each seat, and all seating features custom embroidered cinema logos and seat numbering, adding a bespoke touch to the installation.

This comprehensive seating solution reflects CinemaNext's ability to deliver not just technical excellence in projection and sound, but also the essential comfort elements that define a truly enjoyable cinema experience.

Strategic Partnership for Rural Cinema Access

The project addresses a crucial need for entertainment infrastructure in rural France. "There's no longer any need to take a 30-minute car ride to see a film. This will allow both young and old people to get there," noted Pascal Simonnot, president of CC2V, highlighting the project's community impact.

The installation supports the broader regional strategy for cultural accessibility. The Vice-President of the Île-de-France region, Jean-Philippe Dugoin-Clément, expressed a strong desire to rebalance the region with investments like this, hoping that all citizens of the department will benefit from the same access to cultural activities. "We don't want any forgotten territories," he said with determination.

Technical Excellence and Local Support

Maxime Rigaud, Country Manager CinemaNext France & Suisse, commented: "The Ciné-Lines project perfectly exemplifies our commitment to bringing world-class cinema technology to communities across France. By combining cutting-edge Barco projection technology with premium JBL sound systems, Ezcaray seating, and comprehensive technical support, we've created a cinema experience that rivals any major metropolitan facility. This installation demonstrates that exceptional cinema experiences shouldn't be limited to urban centres - every community deserves access to the magic of cinema with the highest technical standards."

The project's technical complexity required extensive planning and coordination, with CinemaNext providing comprehensive services including design consultancy, equipment supply, professional installation, and staff training. The installation work was completed over 13 months, with the project receiving funding primarily from the Île-de-France region.

Community Impact and Future Vision

The opening celebration reflected the community's enthusiasm for the new facility. "We've been waiting for this since Covid-19. It's a relief that the project is finally coming to fruition," remarked one young resident, according to Le Parisien. Bruno Derouin, a longtime municipal councillor, shared his enthusiasm: "A long time ago, we had a cinema, but it closed in 1989, replaced by another business. It's really nice; we missed it."

The facility is designed to serve as more than just a cinema, with the largest auditorium capable of hosting debates and community meetings. As project initiator Romuald Boulanger expressed: "It's much more than a cinema. It's a place where we should meet and share good times. It's eight years of battles and happiness."

CinemaNext's involvement in the Milly-la-Forêt project reinforces the company's position as a trusted partner for cinema operators across France, providing integrated solutions that combine technical excellence with local support and sustainable practices. The successful completion of this installation demonstrates how modern cinema technology can revitalise rural communities and provide residents with access to world-class entertainment experiences.
