CineEurope 2026 Tech Update

The technology worth knowing about from CineEurope 2026

The CinemaNext teams returned from CineEurope in Barcelona inspired by the technologies that were on show, and there was plenty worth bringing home. This year's trade show floor was all about brighter images, lower running costs and simpler booths, from the next wave of laser projection to genuinely acoustically transparent LED.

Here's a quick round-up of the announcements we think matter most for European sites. As always, the teams across Europe are on hand to talk through what any of them could mean for your cinema operations.

Projection

Barco

  • mFusion ICMP-XS integrated media server, built for the Series 4 platform, with audio processing on board.
  • Smart Amplifier, designed to pair with the ICMP-XS.
  • myCinema, a cloud-based portal for fleet management.

Christie

  • RGBH range: European debut of the RGB pure laser and laser phosphor hybrid, 10,000 to 20,000 lumens, positioned as a practical Xenon-to-laser upgrade. The entry CP4410m-RGBH received its first demonstration.
  • VDR for CineLife+ projectors: higher contrast (up to 10,000:1), with up to 30 per cent lower laser power consumption and up to 50 per cent longer laser life.
  • CineLife+ IMB-S4 media server for Series 4 projectors.

Sharp

  • NC-1224: compact, light and quiet 2K projector, presented as the first RB-DCI-certified projector at 12,000 lumens.
  • NC-521 prototype RB laser projector chassis showcased. Expected to be 5,000 lumen output with integrated media block and under 30dB noise. Billed as boothless and podless deployable.
  • Enhanced Dynamic Range (EDR) across the newest models, for deeper blacks, better efficiency and longer laser life.

LED

GDC Technology

  • Tricorne Premium LED, demonstrated at Odeon Multicines Sambil, Madrid: Europe's first and largest fully acoustically transparent HDR cinema LED (17 metres). It combines a fully acoustically transparent design, True HDR, HFR and 3D presentation, the industry's smallest acoustically transparent pixel pitches (2.5mm and 3.3mm) and scalable sizes from 7 to over 30 metres, wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling. Installed December 2025, delivered with local integrator Equipo de Cine in a 30-day timeline.
  • AIB-4000 DTS:X for IAB cinema processor: 64-channel immersive audio supporting SMPTE IAB standards, for PLF auditoriums.
  • Media server platform: HDR, HFR and 3D playback across both projection and direct-view displays, scaling beyond 8K.

Operations, advertising and automation

Unique x CinemaNext

  • Strategic partnership integrating Unique X's RosettaBridge TMS with the CinemaNext PAA40+ Automation Adapter.
  • Free upgrade to RosettaBridge Plus, including Eco power management, with any PAA40+ purchase.
  • PAA40+ switches and meters twelve outputs (up to 16A each), with built-in DALI lighting control, downloadable energy reports and up to twenty customisable macros.
  • Schedule-driven control of projectors, sound, lighting, HVAC and auxiliary systems delivers up to 70 per cent savings in booth energy costs per year.
