CinemaNext Successfully Completes Renovation of Les Cinemas Capitole in Nyon

CinemaNext, the leading cinema exhibition services provider in EMEA and North America, has successfully completed  a comprehensive renovation project at Les Cinémas Capitole in Nyon, Switzerland. The historic cinema, nestled in the heart of Nyon's town centre, has undergone a significant transformation to enhance the moviegoing experience while preserving its unique attributes.

"This renovation project exemplifies CinemaNext's commitment to delivering comprehensive cinema solutions that respect the unique character of historic venues while incorporating modern amenities and technology," says Julien Bollee, Group VP Fit-Out & E-Commerce Solutions for CinemaNext. "Our team's ability to handle a global project from initial 3D scanning to final implementation, including coordination with local authorities, demonstrates the value of our turnkey approach."

The renovation project showcases CinemaNext's full-service capabilities, and it began with a detailed 3D laser scan of the existing structure including its facade and public spaces, as well as auditoriums, creating precise CAD files to ensure optimal space utilisation. This meticulous planning phase included the development of detailed execution plans and project phasing strategies.

"Les Cinemas Capitole has long been at the heart of Nyon's cultural life, and this renovation ensures we can continue serving our community with an enhanced cinema experience while maintaining our historic charm," notes Adel Benfarhat of Les Cinemas Capitole. "Working with CinemaNext has allowed us to modernise our facilities while preserving the unique character that our patrons have come to love over the years."

A notable feature of the renovation is the thoughtfully designed seating arrangement. Working with one of our partners Ezcaray Seating, CinemaNext installed custom-designed seats to maximise capacity while ensuring patron comfort. The main auditorium, Salle Leone, named in honour of legendary Italian ‘Spaghetti Western’ director Sergio Leone, now accommodates 199 viewers, while the intimate Salle Fellini, paying tribute to Italian Maestro Federico Fellini, seats 80 patrons, bringing the total capacity to 279 seats.

The scope of work encompassed multiple technical and aesthetic elements, including:

  • Installation of advanced acoustic treatment and wall lighting systems;
  • Integration of new step-light safety features;
  • Equipment and installation of specially designed seats from Ezcaray;
  • Premium carpeting from Balsan
  • Comprehensive fire and security systems meeting stringent Swiss regulations;

CinemaNext's project management team coordinated extensively with local authorities and investors throughout the renovation process, including handling all necessary permits and authorizations, streamlining the renovation process for the cinema operators.

The modernisation preserves Les Cinemas Capitole's unique character as a cultural cornerstone of Nyon and the Canton of Vaud, where it continues to serve both mainstream audiences and specialty programming through organisations like the Nyon Film Club as well as the International Festival “Visions du Reel,” which took place in early April this year. The technical upgrades support the venue's diverse projection capabilities, including digital 2D and 3D in Salle Leone, along with the preservation of 35mm projection capability, allowing for both contemporary and classic film presentations.
